  • H.Pylori Breath Test

Your Breath Test will be done at Endoscopy Auckland.

This very simple and painless procedure tests your breath for an enzyme that the bacteria Helicobacter pylori produces.

A nurse will assist you with the test. All you are required to do is blow for 5-10 seconds into 2 small glass vials. The nurse will promptly seal them, and then make up a special solution for you to drink. After waiting for 30 minutes you will repeat 5-10 seconds of blowing into another 2 glass vials.

The glass vials are sent to Christchurch for analysis. Your doctor will receive the results and contact you.

Instructions:

  • Any antibiotics or De-Nol including LosecHelicoPak must be finished for at least 4 weeks prior to the test.
    • If you take:
    • Losec (Omeprazole)
      Somac (Pantoprazole)
      Solox (Lansoprazole)

    • You will need to stop taking these 14 full days before your appointment.
  • H2  antagonists ie: Zantac (Ranitidine) and Pepcidine must be stopped 24 hours before test.
  • For a morning appointment: No food or drink from midnight.
  • For a afternoon appointment: No food or drink at least 3 hours before test.
